Notes for Isaac BARNUM

The last will and testament of Isaac Barnum of Danbury and Newtown, Connecticut, presented in Oct 1756, mentions his wife Sarah; sons Daniel, William and Francis; daughters Sarah, Abigail, Esther, and Mercy; grandsons Isaac Hitchcock and Eli Seeger. His wife received the Great Bible, 1/3 of the house & barn, a hive of bees, the best mare, 2 cows, 10 sheep, and all of the household goods. Isaac and Sarah's daughter Sarah was married and deceased by the time of the settlement.

Isaac Barnum and Sarah Beardsley Notes: His probate was filed in 1756: wife Sarah; well-beloved sons Daniel, William, and Francis; grandsons Isaac Hitchcock and Eli Seeger; heirs of my daughter Sarah; daughters Abigail, Esther and Mercy. Sarah's heirs split £20 and Abigail got £20, Esther and Mercy each got £30, hinting toward the older two already receiving a portion when they married. If Sarah is the mother of Isaac Hitchcock, presumably Abigail is the mother of Eli and married to unknown Seeger (Segar). Both of the grandsons would need to be close to 21 in order to hold title to property, presumably born about 1735.

His inventory was recorded on 5 February 1757 in Danbury.

The birth date of 1710 comes from: Orcutt, Reverend Samuel, A History of the Old Town of Stratford and the City of Bridgeport Connecticut (Fairfield, CT: Fairfield County Historical Society, 1886). The book, More Fairchilds in America, by Jean Fairchild Gilmore, gives a birthdate for Isaac of 1693, which would make him the son of Francis Barnum's first marriage, to Emma "Emm" Fairchild

In 1760, his sons, Daniel Barnum, William Barnum, and Francis Barnum signed an estate distribution agreement.
The book, More Fairchilds in America, by Jean Fairchild Gilmore, erroneously gives a birthdate for Isaac of 1693, which would make him the son of Francis Barnum's first marriage, to Emma "Emm" Fairchild.
