From the Republican Watchman, Monticello, N.Y., February 20, 1885: George W. Barnum died at his residence at Nayatt Point, Rhode Island on Wednesday, February 11. Mr. Barnum was born in the town of Thompson, Sullivan County, NY, May 29, 1812. He was the youngest son of Samuel Barnum, one of the first settlers of the county, and he was the last survivor of a large family of brothers and sisters. In 1859, he removed to Rhode Island, and entered the employment of the Narragansett Brick Company, continuing in their service for about eighteen years. By honesty, industry and attention to the interests of his employers he won their confidence, and was entrusted with very important responsibilities. He retired from active business about six years ago with a comfortable competence. For some months he suffered from an internal cancer which finally caused his death.
