The Skeel (Skeil, Skeele) Family of Connecticut (1950s) by Edythe Wilson Thoesen of Boulder, Colorado. "In Denmark: The Year book of 1925 issued officially each year in Denmark is said to give the Skeel family back to the 15th century. Translated in English this is a 35 page typewritten copy and gave the birth date and marriage record of 260 Skeels in Denmark from AD 1366 to AD 1900 and the personal records of all who achieved position in wealth and station in their close relation to the Crown Barons, Counts and Countesses and many owners of large landed estate too numerous to mention. Titles include Envoy to Russia, Senators appointed by the Crown, Profesors in Universities, Ambassadors to Dansig, Breslau, Saxony, Sweden, England & Russia, Jurists and Ministers, High Appointments in the Army & Navy in Jutland & elsewhere in Denmark. The Coat of Arms of the family is owned by some of our members as well as photographs of the Skeel Castle. It is sad that our branch of the family removed to Reading, England and from there to America." (Since then it has been determined that our branch was in Chatteris, Cambridge, England.)
