Notes for Edward Seth BARNUM


Edward Barnum was a pioneer settler of Crawford County. On May 15th of 1857 he purchased the original land patent for the North half of the NW quarter of section 14, and the SW quarter of the SW quarter of section 11 in Township 8N of Range 4W of Crawford County, Wisconsin. On June 1st of 1858 he purchased the original land patent for lot number one of section 27, lot no. 6 and the SE quarter of the SE quarter of section 28, and the NW quarter of the NW quarter of section of section 33, of township 9N of section 4W. The town of Barnum, Wisconsin located along the Kickapoo River in Haney Township, Crawford County, was named for him. Burial: 1899, Haney Valley Cemetery, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Cause of Death: "effects of La Grippe [influenza]." Land Purchase Date: 1857 (Source: Document number 28851, 28850, and 25234, BLM Land Records, (Mineral Point Land Office, Accession No. W12380 and W12290). Medical Information: "a patient sufferer for over thirty years of rheumatism." Residence: 1830, Marion, Ohio. [Barnum.ged 01-27-2003].
He was buried in Haney Valley Cemetery.
