Her correct surnames at birth should have been Barraza Peña. However, since the family of her paternal grandmother (Romero) was more-well known and well-to-do than that of her paternal grandfather (Barraza) the family chose to reverse them in the case of her father and his siblings, substituting Romero for Barraza. The change in surnames was then passed down from her to her children, whose surnames became Golláz Romero although they should properly have been Golláz Barraza.
She died at home of complications resulting from Alzheimer's Disease, from which she had suffered for over ten years. Her age at the time of death was 70 years, 2 months and 14 days.
