Obituary from the Glasco Sun, Glasco, Kansas, Jan. 14, 1915, page 4: Obituary -- Mrs. Barnum. Margaret Emily Brown, daughter of Thomas H. and Elsie A. Brown, was born near New Athens, Harrison county, Ohio, Jan. 20, 1855, and died at her home near Simpson, Kansas, Jan. 7, 1915, aged 59 years, 11 months and 17 days. At the age of 23, she, with her parents, moved to Glasco, Kansas, where she taught school for ten years. She was united in marriage to Harlow Barnum Oct. 27, 1887. To this union were born three children, Robert L. Barnum of Simpson, Kansas, Mrs. Lillian E. Parker, of Denver, Colo., and Miss Estella Barnum, who, with her husband, step-daughter, Mrs. Ida Kappel, three brothers, John H. Brown of Zanesville, Ohio; R. Clarence Brown of Chicago, Ill.; and Charles E. Brown of Glasco, Kansas and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Kappel, Mrs. Noah Harper and Mrs. Wiley P. Brassfield, of Glasco, Kansas, survive her and mourn their loss. Sister Barnum was converted in early life, united with the M.E. church and lived a devoted Christian life until the Master said, "It is enough, come up higher." The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. A.S. Reeves of Scottsville, at the Highland church Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, at one o'clock, and the remains were laid to rest in the Highland cemetery.
