Notes for Roberta BLAKE


St. George, UT - Roberta Blake Barnum passed away peacefully at her home in St. George, UT. She was born June 12, 1929 in St. George, Utah to Joseph Edward Blake and Harriet Louisa Wade. She married Odean Barnum in the St. George LDS Temple on March 3, 1948.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership callings. Roberta loved family history work doing research, submitting over 100,000 names to LDS Temples all over the world, and serving over 18 years in LDS temples. She published "Saint George, Utah Original Pioneers" from which 1,100 names appear on plaques in the Encampment Mall, a standing monument on the Dixie State College Campus dedicated to the first settlers of St. George, Utah.

She lived in Blue Diamond, Nevada 13 years; Las Vegas, Nevada 26 years, and St. George, Utah for 23 years. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Odean; sons: Dean (Kathleen) Barnum of St. George, Utah, David (Wendy) Barnum of Las Vegas, Nevada, Douglas (Annette) Barnum of Twin Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; a brother, Truman Blake (De Loris) of St. George, Utah; one sister Eula Blake Hansen (Kent) of Ivins, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers: Melvin Blake, Ernest Blake; sisters: Verda Blake Ruth, Grace Blake Matheson, Clara Blake Patton, and Lenora Blake Blake.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. George LDS 5th Ward Chapel, 54 S. 400 E. (Flood Street Chapel), St. George, UT. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery under the care and direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
