Richard H. R. Munro was a barrister (lawyer). He died of a gunshot wound to the head, which he survived for two weeks, suggesting that it was either murder or an incredibly poor suicide attempt.

From a June 2003 message by Mark Huston : I have just found from another source that Jessie Rae, the mother of Richard Honeyman Munro , was (unbeknownst to me) the sister of my ggg grandmother Marion Sibbald Rae, and thus to Dr. John Rae the Arctic explorer. The Raes grew up at the Hall of Clestrain, in Orkney, where their father was a Factor for Sir William Honeyman. This name also appears in the middle name of one of Jessie's brothers, Richard, as well as others in the area.
He died of bullet wounds in the head.
