Ann D. Knowlton nee Billings. was born about 1835 in Ohio. Her mother, Laura K. Devan, b. 1814 in NY d. 1881 out west and father, Ransom Billings, b. 1803 Ct. d. 1861 in Ohio, were gggrandparents of Meghan Billings Brown. Ann's siblings were Ransom Devan Billings b. abt. 1844 d. 1862(?), killed outside Atlanta during the Civil War, and Louisa M. Billings b. abt.1833. Ann's middle name was probably Devan.
Laura K. Devan and Erastus Nathaniel Devan were 2 of 5 children of Talcott and Temperance Devan. Talcott Devan changed his last name to Devan from Devern. Talcott's father's name was John Devern and his mother was Lois Knapp, of Fairfield, Connecticut. There are other Erastus Devans in this family.
