Notes for William L. BARNUM


Obituary published February 1944: William L. Barnum, 28, is reported as missing in action over Germany as of Feb. 24. He was born and grew to manhood in Albion and had completed his seventh mission as a heavy bomber pilot. He was a member of the squadron commanded by Captain James Stewart, popular former moving picture actor. His wife, Lucille, lives in Cleveland, where he had lived at the time he entered military training. He received his Silver Wings and commission as Lieutenant at Freeman Field, Seymour, Ind. on July 26, 1943. Surviving are his wife and mother; three brothers, Jack of 302 Greenwood Ave., Fort Wayne, Kenneth of Ligonier, Vernon of Lakewood, Ohio; five sisters, Mrs. Libey and Mrs. Raymond Cler of Maywood, Ill., Mrs. Harold Veazey of Anderson, Mrs. Harold Singer of Middletown, and Mrs. Ivan Klinger of Winona Lake. His father passed away a number of years ago. The family presented a beautiful picture of Christ to the Presbyterian Church in his memory.
