A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
Dick served two tours in Vietnam on the front lines with Charlie Company as a medic.
While stationed at the Navy base in Oakland California he met and married Ann Louise Gholz in January of 1970. They had two daughters Rebehkah S Barnum and Shauna L Barnum. While married he was stationed in Salt Lake City Utah, Great Falls Montana, and Klamath Falls Oregon with his family. He lived outside McMinnville Oregon for a short time on his wife’s family farm and helped the family raise sheep. He later divorced in 1976.
He married several other times before he married Carol Pusey of Nampa Idaho in the early 1990’s.
Obituary from The Dalles Chronicle of February 28, 2002: Dick Lester Barnum, 54, a resident of Grass Valley, died at his home on Tuesday, February 26, 2002. He was born April 13, 1947, in Portland, and grew up on a wheat and cattle ranch in Sherman County (Oregon) owned by Lester and Myrtle (Roberts) Barnum. He attended his freshman year of high school at Saint Martin's High School in Washington. He graduated from Sherman County High School in 1965 and attended Central Oregon Community College in Bend (Oregon).
He worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle (Washington) before entering the US Navy in March 1967. He served as a Navy Corpsman attached with a Marine division in Vietnam, and was discharged in March 1973. He then served a tour of duty in the Air Force.
After the service, he attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana graduating with a business degree. He moved to Bend and owned and operated an auto service. He sold his auto business and moved to Corvallis (Oregon) to work as a plant manager for the Nazarene Church. He later returned to Bend, working as a carpenter, and building barns.
In the early 1990s he moved to Nampa, Idaho, to work as a carpenter at the Northwest Nazarene College. He returned to his family's ranch in Sherman County in 1993.
He was a member and senior deacon of the Grass Valley First Baptist Church, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of Gideon's International, and enjoyed his carpentry shop and living on the ranch.
He is survived by his wife, Carol E. (Pusey) Barnum, whom he married May 24, 1991, in Nampa; his son, Andrew Frahm, US Army; his daughters and their spouses, Cynthia and Brian Bailey, Parker, Colorado; Rebehkah Barnum, Portland; Shauna Barnum-Beyer and husband, Kale Beyer, Tigard (Oregon) and Anne and Ian May, Portland and his brother, Tommy Barnum, Redmond (Oregon).
Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.
Funeral services will be held at Southern Sherman County Grade School in Grass Valley Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Richard Keeney officiating. Interment with veterans' rites will follow at the Grass Valley Cemetery.

In addition to the survivors mentioned in the obituary above, living family members have stated that he was also survived by his daughters, Rebehkah S. Barnum, Shauna L Barnum Parker and her husband Jon Parker, his brother Tommy Barnum of Redmond, his wife Carol Pusey Barnum and his step children Andrew Frahm, Ann Frahm May and her husband Ian, Cynthia Bailey Parker and her husband Brian Parker.
He was born as Robert Frank Anderson. He was adopted by Lester O. and Myrtle Katherine (Roberts) Barnum and his name was legally changed to Dick Lester Barnum.
