From the Lapeer County Press, 27 Feb 2008: Catherine B. Kitty Barnum, 99, of Lapeer, passed away Friday (February 22, 2008). She was born July 28, 1908, in Scotland, to William and Sarah Jesse (Keith Sinclair) Blair. She married Lesley Barnum. Mrs. Barnum made good shortbread and strawberry jam. She was a champion Scottish dancer when she was young. At the age of 73, she joined the Master Swimmers, competed for ten years and became the Senior World Olympic Gold Medal winner. She is survived by her daughters, May Whiting of Florida, Mary (Michael) Lydick of Chesterfield Twp., Bertie Hoyt of Lapeer; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lesley Barnum; young son, Robert Carruthers; great-grandson, Jeromy; mother, Sarah Wilson; father, William Blair; 3 sisters and 1 brother.
