Notes for George EISENHUTH


His father was George Eisenhuth, born 1778 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. George, Junior was born in Union County, Pennsylvania. His mother was Elizabeth Barbara Brion, born about 1798 also in Berks County. His son and other descendants seem to have adopted the spelling Eisenhood for their surname, since it appears that way in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses.

The original family name was Eisenhuth and they came over from Lorraine, France. They were French Hugenots being persecuted in France who came over on the ship Nancy and docked in Philadelphia in September of 1754. The father's name was Henrich; the mother's name was never known. In March a son was born In Lancaster County Pennsylvania. He was baptized Bernet Eisenhuth in the Old Lebanon Lutheran Church in May. No one knows exactly where in Lancaster they lived. Bernet(Bernard) married Anna Maria Orwig in 1782 and they had a daughter in 1783 in Berks County. In 1778 a son, George Eisenhuth was born and his mother died. In 1780, Bernard went back to Lancaster County and married Catherine Saylor. She was born in 1767 in Philadelphia. They had a daughter born in 1781 in Berks County. In 1782 Bernard took Catherinee back to Lancaster County. He joined the Milita in Lancaster county and ended up a captain with General Anthony Wayne.
