Notes for Harold Irving BARNUM

Housatonic -- Harold I. "Porky" Barnum, 77, Housatonic, passed away quietly on April 7, 2009, at the home of his nephew Louis Ely, and his wife, Paula, where he had been residing. Born on Sept. 30, 1931, at home in Great Barrington, he was the son of Irving and Gertrude Briggs Barnum. He attended local schools. He worked at Pfizer in Canaan, Conn., until he suffered a back injury. He then became well known around the area for being an avid horseman and trained many successful thoroughbred horses such as Francie's Boy. He was a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed spending time with his great-niece and great-nephew, Louis and Amanda Ely whom he regarded as his grandchildren. He leaves his sister, Betty Graham, and her husband, Martin, a brother David, and his wife, Mary Lou, all of Great Barrington, a sister-in-law, Nancy Barnum, of North Egremont, and many nieces and nephews, three of whom he raised, Louis Ely, of Pittsfield, Susan Ely Fink of Mexico City, Mexico, and Caren Ely Walsh of Fort Ann, N.Y, and many great-nieces and great-nephews two of whom he resided with that will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his wife Marie Ely Barnum in 2000 and a brother Clarence "Pickle" Barnum in 1991.
