Notes for Arthur J. KERBER


From the Observer-Dispatch, Utica, NY, March 3, 2012: Arthur "Art" J. Kerber, age 87, formerly of Prindle Apts., Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Masonic Care Community, Utica, NY. He was born on April 16, 1924, in Ilion, the son of Walter and Hazel (Bastow) Kerber, and was a graduate of Ilion High School. On September 29, 1951, he was married to Edith Barnum at Calvary Church in Utica. She died on June 17, 2000. For thirty-three years, Mr. Kerber was a Produce Manager at Loblaws and later, Great American in Ilion. Art was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion and advisor of the Presbyterian Youth Group. He was also a member of the Olive Masonic Lodge #40, Scottish Rite of Utica, and was an advisor of the Ilion Demolay. Art enjoyed his annual vacations with his wife, and time spent with his family. Survivors include two daughters, Laurel Kerber, of Little Falls, and Susan Overacker, of Ilion; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Susan Kerber, of Ilion; six grandchildren, Jeremy Kerber and his wife, Francine, of Richmond, VA, Kelly Archer and her husband, David, of Ilion, Aaron Burkhart and his wife, Susan, of Herkimer, Heather Cloutier and her husband, John, of Ilion, Alyssa Kerber and her fiance, Kevin, of Ilion, and Roxanne Gutheinz, of Ilion; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife; his son-in-law, Chris Overacker; his great grandson, Chase Sterling; and his brother, Elton. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, New York.
