Notes for June O. DUBOURDIEU

From the San Francisco Chronicle, Monday, September 22, 2003: Barnum, June Dubourdieu - Completed nearly a century of life on September 12, 2003. She was born on June 1, 1909 in Grass Valley to Olive and Charles 'Tule' Dubourdieu, Jr. She saw many changes during her life span, including the means of communication, which was a favorite pastime. From the days of the band-cranked wall phone to the present cell phone technology, she always kept in touch with her family and friends. Reared in the Sierra, she spent her past 70 years in the city known for its Golden Gate Bridge, which she was proud to have walked across on its opening day. Yet, she maintained her roots in Sierra Valley, and a few years ago received her 75 year Order of the Eastern Star pin in her home chapter. She was preceded in death in 1980 by her beloved husband, Millard McKinley Barnum, and in June 2003 by her devoted daughter, June Lucretia Barnum. She is survived by her son Tulie, grandchildren Lori, Kris and Kirk, and great-grandchildren Lauren, Neil and Chase, all of whom she adored. Known for her generosity and devotion to family, she shared a very special bond with each of her grandchildren. Throughout her lifetime she never lost her sense of humor, quick wit, her sense of self or her independence. She will be missed by so many.
