From the Sioux Center News, June 18, 2003: Donald Ray Barnum, 59, of Hawarden died Monday, June 9, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Barnum was born December 18, 1943, in Hawarden, the son of William "Bud" and Claire (Bryson) Barnum. He married Penny Hughes on August 9, 1969, at First Baptist Church in Hawarden. He was employed at Higman Sand and Gravel in Akron for 41 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include four children, Technical Sgt. Donald "Joe" Barnum, USAF, of Brandon, Florida, Troy A. Barnum of Westminster, Colorado, Tammy and her husband Bob Flittie of West Point, Nebraska, and Jason R. Barnum and his wife Jenny of Rapid City, South Dakota; four grandchildren; his father, of Hawarden; two brothers, Rodney "Rocky" Barnum and Darold "Dari" Barnum, both of Hawarden; and his two companions, Bailey and Dodger. He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, Frank, on July 12, 2002.
