A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname

Rose and her first husband, Joseph Dujardin, lived for some time in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
In a passport application dated 29 June 1921 Rose Timmermans Barnum stated:
1) That she was born in Lierre, Belgium on 3 October 1886. [Her birth certificate shows 1881].
2) That she had married Amos W. Barnum on June 12, 1915 at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in San Francisco, California.
3) That her previous passport had been canceled and retained by her.
4) That she had resided in Belgium from her birth until 1905 and in Europe until 1909.
5) That her permanent residence at the time of the application was at San Francisco, California.
6) That she was a lace buyer and would be leaving the United States for "commercial business" through Belgium, France and Italy.
7) That she planned to return to the United States within two months.
In a passport application dated 25 July 1923 Rose stated that she would be traveling with her minor children: 1) Dennis Dujardin, born 22 August 1906; 2) Francis Dujardin, born 16 July 1912; and Albert Barnum, born 4 June 1914, all three born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She further stated that her husband, Amos W. Barnum, was at that time residing at Boechout, Belgium for the purpose of commercial business. She gave her legal domicile and permanent residence as New York City and indicated that she had resided outside the United States (in Belgium) from September to October, 1921; May 1922 to January 1923; and 26 May 1923 to date. She gave her occupation as lace buyer and stated that she would be leaving the United States to buy laces for the firm of Maison Dujardin of New York City. It was her intent to travel to Belgium for commercial business and temporary residence and to Germany, France, the British Isles, Switzerland, Italy, Czechoslovakia and Bavaria for commercial business. She planned to return to the United States within six months.
Rose died in 1935 in France (having American citizenship) and her second husband, Amos W. Barnum, died in 1941 in Santa Monica, California. It seems that both of them traveled quite a bit.
Rose had a brother Godefredius (Gottfried) Timmermans, who emigrated to Boston, but little is known about him.
Also interesting: Rose is an older sister of Felix Timmermans, a famous writer from Lier. His best-known work “Pallieter” (1914) has been translated into 13 languages, including Japanese (2005).
