Notes for Martha Marie ELLIS


From the Mason City Globe Gazette, Iowa, January 24, 1931: Manly, Jan. 24.—Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Blackmore, 87, who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dan Knowles were held Friday afternoon at the Knowles' home. Burial was made in the Manly Cemetery.
Martha M. Ellis was born May 11, 1843, at Alleghany, N.Y. She grew to womanhood there. In 1865, she was married to Frederick C. Blackmore also of Allegheny (sic Allegany). Soon afterward they moved to Wisconsin and later to Iowa. Mr. Blackmore died about 30 years ago. For the last 12 years Mrs. Blackmore lived at the home of her daughter,Mrs. Dan Knowles. She had been failing for some time, suffering with arteriosis and old age. She was critically ill for about three weeks.
Six children survive. They are: Mrs. E. L. Phelps of Albert Lea, Minn.; Mrs. Dan Knowles of Manly; Mrs. Wallace Beaver of Gridley,California; Mrs. E. E. Marple of Wendell, Minn.; and J. E. Blackmore and O. W. Blackmore, both of Cottage Grove, Oregon.
