Notes for Moses BARNUM


In 1756, Thomas Barnum and Eliphalet Barnum were appointed Moses' guardians.

He enlisted April 22, 1775 for service in the Revolutionary War. He served as a sergeant in Captain Whittlesey's company, Colonel Paterson's Regiment.

From Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution: Barnum, Moses, Stockbridge. Corporal, Capt. William Goodrich's co., Col. Paterson's regt., which marched April 22, 1775, in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775, to Cambridge; service, 14 days; also, muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted May 5, 1775; service, 3 mos. 3 days; also, Sergeant, Capt. Ezra Whittelsey's co., Lieut. Col. David Rossiter's (Berkshire Co.) regt.; service from Aug. 13 to Aug. 18, 1777, 5 days; marched to Bennington.

In the US Census of 1790 for Stockbridge, Berkshire, Massachusetts there is enumerated the family of a Moses BARNUM as follows:
Pg 590; Barnum, Moses; 2 free white males 15 up; 4 free white males to 16 and 4 free white females.
