Notes for Edward Horatio BARNUM

The Barnum Family, 1350-1907 calls him Horatio Barnum.
Although living in Bethel, Connecticut he held an account (#11927) at the New York Emigrant Savings Bank. The initial entry, on 2 July 1856, gives the following information: Hatter, native of Bethel, Conn., Fa. dead, Stephen, mo. living (Charlotte Foote), 1 bro. Wm. F. & 4 sisters, is single. The account was opened with a deposit of $100 and by 1 January 1868 the balance had risen to $14,138, quite a significant amount for those times. On that date the entire balance was transferred to account #11930, in the name of Denis Cleary, a nurse residing at City Hospital, New York, and a native of Clogheen, County Tipperary, Ireland.
