Sarah opened an account with the Freedman's Bank of South Carolina on 24 Jan 1873. The following information was noted on her application: Mrs. S. S. Barnum; Complexion White; Occupation Teacher; Husband: J. H. Barnum; Son, Willie; Remarks: Subject to order of either J. H. Barnum or Sarah.
A note in her father-in-law's family bible says: Died in Shelby County, Tenn. at their house on Carnes Ave. south of Montgomery Park, Nov. 18, 1893.
