Notes for Eben Lewis BARNUM


Eben Lewis Barnum was the compiler, together with Reverend Francis Barnum, S.J., of The Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family. During the Civil War he was a Corporal in Company "I", 3rd Regiment, Connecticut Infantry (25 Apr-12 Aug 1861) and in Company "A", 11th Regiment, Connecticut Infantry (29 Oct 1861-Nov 1864). When he enlisted on 25 April 1861, he gave his residence as Danbury; for his enlistment on 29 October, he gave his residence as New Fairfield. After the war, he served a term as Commander, Post 18, G.A.R.

In Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the Army and Navy of the United States During the War of the Rebellion there appears the following entry: Corporal Barnum, Eben L., New Fairfield, Oct. 29, '61, (See Corp. Co. C, 3d C. V.) Redcs. to ranks. Disc. Nov. 18, '64 tm. ex.
Gravestone inscription: Co. A, 11th C.V.I.
