In the 1820 US Census for Fort Ann, Washington County, New York, the family of Smith Barnum was enumerated as follows:
Smith Barnum; 1 male 16-26, 1 female 16-26
It may be readily assumed that the female was his wife, Freelove, Mason. Smith was the only Barnum head of family listed for the town, although there were eleven Mason families enumerated.
In the 1860 US Census for Greenville, Montcalm County, Michigan, the family of Smith Barnum was enumerated as follows:

Smith Barnum, 66, Male, Shoemaker, Personal property $200, b. New York
Freelove Barnum, 53, Female, b. New York
Charles Barnum, 22, Male, Day laborer, b. New York
According to the 1870 US Mortality Schedule Smith Barnum died in September 1869 at Greenville, Montcalm County, Michigan.
