Notes for Emily A. BARNUM

Emily A. Barnum married William Collier on 9 Oct 1865 in Noble County, Indiana (Marriage Records of Noble Co). She is mistakenly listed in some family trees as the daughter of Abel Sweet Barnum and Mary E. Potts. However, she was definitely the daughter of Albert Starr Barnum and Mary Day. Her birthdate fits that of their Emily and Albert Barnum's obituary mentions that their oldest child (who would be Emily) died in Indiana. The original error in the listing of Emily's parentage probably resulted from the fact that both couples were occasionally referred to as A. S. and Mary Barnum. The error was then compounded by being quoted in subsequent genealogies without adequate research to correct the error.
