Obituary from the New Ulm, Minnesota Journal of Friday, July 16, 1999. Richard Barnum, 78, of Carthage, Mo., and formerly of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage. Services are Monday at 10:30 am at New Avon Salem United Methodist Church in New Avon Township with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. He is survived by his friend Lee Reider of Carthage, Mo.; sister, Ruth Mulick and husband Joe of Kansas City, Kansas; sister-in-law, Ruth Barnum of rural Redwood Falls; and brother-in-law, Jack Large of Wabasso; several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon; and sister, Delores. He was born on Feb. 19, 1921, in Redwood Falls to Doc Luvern and Myrtle (Johnson) Barnum. He graduated from Wabasso High School. He farmed in Redwood County. He was a member of New Avon Salem United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau.
