Gladys Mahala Compton Barnum was born on March 5, 1894 in Kansas and died January 13, 1954 in Mercedes, Texas.
From the Valley Morning Star, Harlingen, Texas, January 14, 1954: Mercedes—Mrs. Gladys M. Barnum, wife of Ralph Barnum, Mercedes died at her home Wednesday. She was 59. The family moved here in 1947 from Hiawatha, Kansas.
Services will be held In the Stotler Mortuary chapel at 4 p.m. Friday with the Rev. George Wheeler, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. Besides the husband, she is survived by a son, Harley Barnum, Mercedes; two brothers, Walter Compton of Plattsburg, N.Y.; and Karl Compton, St. Joseph, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
