From the Bridgeport Post, Bridgeport, Connecticut, Saturday, January 7, 1956: Bethel, Conn., Jan. 6--Mrs. Catherine Smith Barnum, 90, of 39 Main Street, widow of L. Starr Barnum, died Thursday (January 5) in Danbury hospital. Services will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Bethel funeral home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, with the Rev. Charles P. Benedict, pastor of the Danbury Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Barnum had made her home in Bethel for many years with her daughter, Mrs. Marjorie S. Barnum. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. James J. Muckenhoupt, of Danbury, and a great-granddaughter, Mrs. Joseph M. Simonelli, of Bologna, Italy.
