From the Star Tribune, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 8, 2010: Barnum, Shirley Elaine (nee: Shipley) Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, age 87, of Excelsior, passed away on October 6, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, John and Alma (Sullivan) Shipley; son, John and brother, Jerry. Survived by loving husband, Jack, of 58 years; son, Greg (Marcia); daughter-in-law, Peggy; grandchildren, Anne, Marie, Melissa, Pat, Tony, Zach and Shelby; great-granddaughter, Jada. Shirley is a long-time member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church and a founding member of Befrienders. Graduate of the University of Illinois Normal and Masters of Education from the University of Illinois Urbana. History teacher, avid reader, bridge player and volunteer. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at 1 PM at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill Street, Excelsior, MN (952- 474-8868) with gathering of Family and Friends the hour prior to Mass. Private interment is at Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood, Minnesota.
